South East Australia Bushfire Relief and Recovery

The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) acknowledges the broad effect of the ongoing bushfire crisis across south east Australia.  

With much of south east Australia impacted by the devastating bushfires that continue to burn, our thoughts and best wishes are with those that have been affected and the many volunteer firefighters, emergency services and community groups that continue to work tirelessly to protect the communities.  

On behalf of our members, staff, exhibitors and clients, we are pledging an initial donation $50,000 to support the bushfire relief. These funds will be directed to charitable organisations best equipped to effectively and efficiently distribute the funds to communities affected by the bushfires. 

Rebuilding the many impacted communities is a long-term prospect. 

We are currently working with the State Government and relevant agencies to provide valuable support and assistance on an on-going basis. 

The RASV will continue to monitor ways that we can support them throughout the recovery process and will keep our members and exhibitors well informed.

The fires have caused unprecedented damage across much of Australia and many communities will require help and support to assist with the rebuild.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

It is normal for a distressing or frightening event to affect you physically, mentally and emotionally. Long-running fires in your local area can be extremely stressful and can trigger emotional, physical and psychological reactions.

If at any time you are worried about your mental health or the mental health of a loved one, call Lifeline on 13 11 14.

Fodder and Feed Relief

The Victorian Farmers Federation is coordinating fodder relief for farmers affected by bushfires in Gippsland and the Upper Murray.

The VFF has secured an agreement with the Victorian Government to facilitate the transport of fodder to affected regions. This includes reimbursement of freight costs for transport of donated fodder. For more information on receiving fodder or agistment, please visit Victorian Farmers Federation.

Animal welfare assessments and assistance

Agriculture Victoria is supporting Gippsland and Upper Murray landholders impacted by recent fires through animal welfare assessments and assistance, farm impact assessments and the referral of urgent cases of personal need to the appropriate agencies.

If you have any injured livestock, please report it to Agriculture Victoria on 1800 226 226 so that our animal health staff can assess the livestock. If you have injured pets, please seek advice immediately from your local vet.

In the months ahead, Agriculture Victoria will provide ongoing support to farmers, such as the provision of technical advice associated with fire recovery.

Business Assistance

The Victorian Tourism Industry Council in partnership with the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is providing business assistance in a disaster declared area. Further information is available on their website.
