Claiming a coveted Melbourne Royal blue ribbon is a significant highlight for the thousands of exhibitors at the Royal Melbourne Show, from livestock and their handlers, to show horses and their champion riders along with all-breeds of dogs and their owners. From the most intricate creations of the Art, Craft & Cookery entrants, to the strength and skill of the woodchoppers, we wish all our talented participants the very best of luck with their competitions.

The RASV receives more than 15,000 entries in Melbourne Royal competitions each year which greatly contributes to the unique event experience for exhibitors and patrons.

It’s almost Show time! There is less than 100 days until the opening day of the 2021 Royal Melbourne Show. So, if you are thinking of exhibiting this year, be sure to keep a close eye on the closing dates and don’t miss out on being a part of the 2021 Royal Melbourne Show to be held from Thursday 23 September to Sunday 3 October at Melbourne Showgrounds.

All Breeds Championship Show (Dogs)

The 2021 All Breeds Championship Show provides opportunity for handlers to benchmark their breed, from Afghan Hounds to Yorkshire Terriers with some of Australia’s best judges deciding the winners of a coveted Melbourne Royal rosette. With one of the largest prize pools offered in Australia, this year's All Breeds Championship Show is not to be missed!

Alpaca and Alpaca Fleece

The Royal Melbourne Show Alpaca Competition is making its mark as Victoria’s premier Alpaca competition, providing exhibitors with a dedicated event space and valuable networking opportunities. The competition is split into two major sections - Suri and Huacaya.
This year marks 30 Years in Show for alpacas, with the Royal Melbourne Show being the first Australian Royal to showcase the Huacaya and Suri breeds.

Art, Craft & Cookery Competition

The Royal Melbourne Show Art, Craft & Cookery Competition is a celebration of community, passion and expression.
Offering 470 classes, exhibitors can explore their imagination across a diverse range of disciplines, catering for the novice through to the master.

From traditional handmade lace to contemporary photography, more than 1000 exhibitors showcase their skills; bringing ideas to life, to take their place in one of the biggest exhibitions of Australia’s creativity.

Beef Carcase

The Royal Melbourne Show Beef Carcase Competition provides studs, commercial producers, agricultural schools and colleges with the opportunity to network and benchmark the quality of their livestock.

Offering some of Australia’s most prestigious trophies and awards, preparation is key. Genetic selection, nutrition and animal handling are all vital elements that influence the blend of live judging and carcase scores, assessed by the Meat Standards Australia (MSA) grading system.

Beef Cattle

The Royal Melbourne Show Beef Cattle Competition provides exhibitors with the opportunity to showcase and benchmark their livestock in one of Australia’s biggest and most prestigious cattle competitions.

Steeped in more than 150 years of tradition, the competition brings the best cattle and producers together, with exhibits displayed and judged over five action packed days – all seeking the glory that comes from being declared a Royal Melbourne Show Supreme Champion.

Exhibitors of all ages have an opportunity to interact, mentor and learn, balancing the great tradition of cattle showing with the latest innovations in technology and seedstock marketing.

Dairy Cattle

The Royal Melbourne Show Dairy Cattle Competition comprises in-milk and dry cattle classes, along with the popular Dairy Youth Handlers Classic.

Fleece (Sheep)

From the ultra-fine Merino to the lustrous Lincoln, the extensive range of classes ensure traditional breeds and modern styles are on display throughout the 11 days of the Royal Melbourne Show.

Incorporating the District Fleece and Australian Lambs Wool Competitions, the Competition celebrates and promotes the quality and versatility of wool products.

Horses in Action

The Royal Melbourne Show Horses in Action Competition brings the best in equine excellence to benchmark their abilities against some of Australia’s most highly skilled horses and riders.

Featuring the iconic Garryowen Equestrienne Turnout and the prestigious FEI World Cup Qualifier, the Horses in Action Competition combines great tradition with an array of classes that offer the most experienced rider and the up-and-coming equine superstars the opportunity to compete for a coveted champion sash.

Poultry

The Royal Melbourne Show Poultry Competition is one of the most prestigious fanciers competitions in Australia, provides breeders with an opportunity to benchmark their birds with a full range of Australian Poultry Standard classes available to enter

Modern Game will be the feature breed with all judging to take place on Wednesday 22 September, prior to the commencement of the Royal Melbourne Show.

Sheep

Woodchop Championships

The Royal Melbourne Show Woodchop Championships has featured at the Show for more than 100 years, providing champion and handicap woodchoppers an opportunity to compete across more than 40 events including tree-felling, standing block, underhand, sawing and teams relay.

Over the course of five days, woodchoppers will compete for a variety of awards and accolades including the VicForest Australian Tree Felling Championships (275mm) and the iconic Golden Axe.
