Vale Ian Shawcross and Kaye Lynn

The Melbourne Royal ® Board, management and staff were saddened to learn of the passing of Kaye Lynn and Ian Shawcross.

Kaye Lynn passed away earlier this year aged 92. Kaye had a longtime involvement with Melbourne Royal beginning when he was a child attending the Melbourne Royal Show with his parents and competing in the Horses in Action competition.

Kaye’s passion for horses and attending the Melbourne Royal Show continued when he had his own family attending a favourite annual event.
Kaye’s longtime involvement and support of Melbourne Royal was acknowledged with Honorary Life membership.

Our sincere condolences to Kaye’s family and friends.

Ian had a long association with Melbourne Royal, most notably his time as a member of the Melbourne Royal Fleece Committee for over three decades. We are most grateful for Ian’s support of the Melbourne Royal Fleece Competition including his time served as Chief Judge from 2007 a role he continued even after his formal retirement in 2023.

Ian’s work went beyond judging—his leadership and expertise was integral to the success of the Melbourne Royal Fleece Competition, from arranging sponsorship for the event to organizing the sale of donated fleeces for charity.
Ian’s involvement was recognised when he was nominated by his peers this year to receive a Speed the Plough medal.

Our deepest condolences to Ian’s family and friends.
