Yea for the RASV Hoof and Hook Competition

The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) is proudly presenting an all new “Hoof and Hook” competition in the regional Victorian town of Yea on Saturday 26 September, with the competition to be livestreamed from Yea Saleyards. 

Following the 2020 Royal Melbourne Show cancellation in April, the RASV Hoof and Hook Competition was announced to provide agricultural schools and tertiary institutions, along with beef cattle breeders, the opportunity to exhibit their cattle.  

CEO of the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria, Brad Jenkins is delighted the RASV can present the Hoof and Hook Competition in 2020, in replacement of the annual Royal Melbourne Show Beef Carcase Competition. 

“The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria is thrilled to provide agricultural schools and tertiary institutions, along with beef cattle breeders, the opportunity to enter the RASV Hoof and Hook Competition in 2020.  It enables students to continue preparing their livestock and importantly complete their curriculum obligations.”   

The response from the cattle community has been very positive, with entries received from all over rural and regional Victoria and NSW. 

“We were pleased by the positive response and support for the new RASV Hoof and Hook Competition with 135 entries received.  In a year that has caused immense disruption to many, especially to the many schools and colleges involved in the competition, it is wonderful to provide a platform to promote and celebrate excellence in agriculture,” Mr Jenkins concluded.  

Due to the restrictions surrounding the COVID-19 health crisis, unfortunately no exhibitors or public will be able to attend the event and only essential personnel will be permitted onsite at Yea Saleyards. 

With various restrictions still in place throughout Victoria and New South Wales, RASV Beef Cattle Committee Chair, Mr David Bolton, was excited to showcase the judging via a livestream.  

“Whilst we are disappointed that the exhibitors will not be onsite for the judging, the Yea Saleyards have provided a great facility and the judging of the finalists will be livestreamed from 2:00pm-4:00pm on Saturday 26 September via the RASV website,” said Mr Bolton.  

“It has been a team effort to deliver this event and we are all exceptionally grateful for the support from the Murrindindi Shire Council, exhibitors, sponsors, event day volunteers and our judge, Mr Geordie Elliot,” concluded Mr Bolton.   

The RASV Hook and Hook Competition will take place on Saturday 26 September with the event livestreamed via the RASV website from 2:00pm-4:00pm.
