2025 Art, Craft & Cookery Showbag Design Competition
Melbourne Royal is thrilled to invite talented students from schools and universities across Victoria to participate in an exciting design challenge! This is a rare opportunity for students to apply their artistic skills and creativity in a real-world context, with a chance to win amazing prizes and see their work displayed at one of Melbourne’s most iconic events.
About the Competition:
The Art, Craft & Cookery Showbag has been a coveted, collectible item since its inception in 2013, when it debuted with a winning design from an RMIT BA Textile student. For the first time in 2024, the competition was opened up to a number of additional universities across Melbourne. The winning design will be printed on 500 showbags and will include the designer's name/signature and space for individual numbering.
We are seeking an original design that:
- Captures the essence of art, craft, and cookery.
- Appeals to our target audience, including mothers, young artists, and retirees.
- Works beautifully on a square-shaped canvas tote made from raw canvas, using a two-colour print in two colourways.
Why Participate?
- The winning design will be featured on a product available at the 2025 Melbourne Royal Show Makers Pavilion, reaching 500 buyers and many more visitors.
- Gain real-world experience designing a marketable product.
- Prizes:
- 1st Prize: $750 and 2x general admission tickets to the Melbourne Royal Show (design used).
- 2nd Prize: $250 (design not used).
- A unique addition to your portfolio that showcases your skills to future employers.
