The Princess Royal Cup
First presented 1952 The trophy is awarded to the best group of three Red Poll - male or female. The cup was named in honour of Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal, Mary the sister of King George IV. She was the retiring president of the Red Poll Society of Great Britain & Ireland. It was a gift from the Red Poll Society of Great Britain & Ireland to the Red Poll Breeders’ Association of Australia. The gift was to acknowledge her contribution and retirement. Princess Mary was not just a figurehead president, she had founded a stud of Red Poll cattle at her home, Harewood House, in Yorkshire. She successfully exhibited these cattle and had grown up knowing the breed as the Royal Red Poll Stud had been founded at the King’s Sandringham estate in 1914. The cup was first competed for in 1952 at the Royal Melbourne Show. It was won by Arthur Beggs of Beaufort.
