Colonel Sir Malcom McArthur OBE
Knighthood for man dedicated to Australian beef industry
Sir Malcom McArthur OBE was a driving force behind the beef and cattle sections at the Show, and also across Australia.
Colonel McArthur was elected to the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) council in May 1962 and was made a Life Councillor in 1982.
Over his two decades of service, Sir McArthur was involved in finance, beef cattle, public relations, space allocation and sponsorship committees.
He had a distinguished army career, and in civilian life was chairman of the Australian Meat Board from 1970-77 (now Meat and Livestock Australia) and the Australian Egg Board from 1967-70. He retired as chairman and a member of the Australian Meat Board on November 30, 1977.
The following year Sir McArthur was awarded a Knighthood for his services to the Australian meat industry, another accolade to add to the Order of the British Empire (OBE) he received in 1966 for services to primary industries.
