Mr Robert McLeod
‘A BOB’ for recognising the importance of Show volunteers
Mr Robert ‘Bob’ McLeod, was a passionate Alpaca breeder and Show volunteer for over two decades.
In 1993, Bob and his wife bought a block of land at Tynong and began breeding a small herd of alpacas, which they later grew to over 100.
Within the Melbourne Royal Show, Bob served as a committee member for over 15 years until 2018 and as a steward for over 20 years until his passing in 2019.
During this time, Bob was also extensively involved with the Victorian Eastern Region Australian Alpaca Association, serving as a committee member and volunteering at the VER Fleece Show and Farm World event.
In 2010 he was recognised with a 10 year VER service medal and in 2011 and 2015 he was awarded a AAA Certificate of Appreciation for his efforts. In honour of Bob’s contributions and to recognise the efforts of VER volunteers, the VER Bob McLeod award, known as ‘A BOB,’ was established in July 2021.
Though, as his wife put it, Bob “didn’t need any accolades, he just loved being involved and doing the job.” Bob will always be revered for his salt-of-the-earth character and remembered for his many contributions to the Alpaca industry.
