Garryowen Hall of Fame Winners

Numerous awards have arisen from the Garryowen competition, an event held in honour of Violet Murrell and her mount, Garryowen, who both died in a fire.

The Hall of Fame awards, beginning in 2009, are designed to recognise the achievements of riders, horses, and individuals who have displayed a commitment to the Garryowen competition through exceptional service.

To be eligible for the Hall of Fame nominees for the Rider, Horse, and Exceptional Service categories must meet certain criteria, with the inductees being carefully selected from a number of guidelines.

Garryowen Hall of Fame Criteria and Guidelines

Rider:

• Any rider who has won the Garryowen Equestrienne Turnout.
• Riders still competing.
• Consideration will be given to the number of times a rider has won and entered the Garryowen, the consistency of results achieved in all aspects of the rider’s competition career, and with riders that have made an outstanding contribution to enhancing the reputation of the Garryowen will being highly regarded.

Horse:

• Any horse that has won the Garryowen Equestrienne Turnout.
• Horses still competing.
• Consideration will be given to the number of times a horse has won the Garryowen and to the consistency of results achieved in all aspects of the horse’s competition career.

Exceptional Service:

• Any person outside those set aside for riders who have made an outstanding contribution to the Garryowen. This category includes owners, trainers, stewards, judges, officials, media, administrators.
• Consideration will be given to the level of support provided by the nominee, the impact the nominee’s support, and the number of years the nominee has supported the Garryowen.
