White Ribbon Tea Rooms
In 1898, the Women's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) submitted an application to the RASV Council requesting that a booth be erected for the sale of light refreshments and afternoon tea on the showgrounds during the annual show. This request led to the establishment of the White Ribbon Tea Rooms.
Several members spoke in favour ... referring to the difficulty that has always been felt in getting a good cup of tea, at a moderate price, at the annual show.
The White Ribbon Tea Rooms operated at the Show until 1980 when it was closed due to the demolition and redevelopment of the building and surrounding precinct.
The Woman's Christian Temperance Union is an international organisation which uses a white bow as its symbol.
