What's New in 2025
The 2025 Melbourne Royal Woodchop Championships offers an enhanced experience with more chances to win, new opportunities for youth, and a strengthened sense of community.
Entries are now open, providing the opportunity to compete for the coveted Blue Ribbon and Golden Axe in a competition set to be more accessible and rewarding than ever.
Melbourne Royal has listened to its passionate woodchopping community and driven by valuable exhibitor feedback, the 2025 program will offer thoughtful scheduling enhancements, more diverse divisions and broader prize opportunities.
The 2025 program features a new 'Under 21' competition, dedicated women’s classes in the Women’s Underhand Handicap and the Women’s Single-Handed Sawing Handicap, and an increased prize pool for the 'Open Championships’.
The competition will offer 18 handicap classes, an expansion that broadens competitive opportunities for participants of all skill levels. To further enhance winning potential, with sufficient entries, these classes will be divided into two handicap-based divisions, with prize money awarded to the winners of each.
The Under 15s underhand competition has returned and provides a platform for young competitors to showcase their skills and participate in this historic event, while a new Under 21 Aggregate Trophy has been introduced to celebrate and encourage the next generation of woodchopping talent.
Mirroring the prestigious 'Golden Axe' Grand Aggregate Trophy, this award recognises consistent performance from competitors under 21 across all classes. Points will be accumulated based on competitor placements, with the highest scorer being declared the winner.
Beyond the thrill of competition, the Melbourne Royal Woodchop Championship serves as a vital gathering place, fostering genuine camaraderie and the deep shared passion that unites Australia's elite woodchoppers and their families.
Compete at the Melbourne Royal Show and become the next chapter in the enduring legacy of Australian woodchopping. Entries close 14 May 2025.
